RV Parking Rules in Fort Worth, Texas — 2025 Guide
Updated 2025 · Based on current city ordinances
Fort Worth's Building Line Rule
Fort Worth's Zoning Ordinance requires that recreational vehicles parked on residential property be stored behind the building line — meaning behind the front wall of the home — or be fully screened from public view by an opaque fence or wall. Unlike Dallas (which requires garaging), Fort Worth allows driveway storage if the vehicle is behind the building line. However, a typical driveway leading up to the garage is often in front of the building line, making it technically non-compliant for most standard configurations.
In practical terms: if your RV fits in the portion of your driveway that is behind the front face of your home (on the side or in a rear-access garage), you are compliant. If the vehicle is in the visible front driveway between the street and your home, you need opaque screening or must move it to the rear. Code enforcement at (817) 392-1234.
Street Parking — 72-Hour Limit
Fort Worth enforces a standard 72-hour street limit for all vehicles on public residential streets. This is more permissive than Dallas's similar ordinance enforcement culture, and Fort Worth parking enforcement is generally complaint-driven.
HOA Landscape in Fort Worth
Fort Worth has significant HOA penetration in its newer suburban developments, particularly in the northwest (Haslet, Saginaw, Keller area) and southwest (Benbrook, Aledo, Weatherford corridor). Many of these communities have CC&Rs with RV storage restrictions beyond the city code minimum. Texas HOA procedural rights under SB 1588 (2021) apply — your HOA must follow recorded enforcement policies and provide hearings before fines.
Tarrant County Unincorporated Areas
Areas of Tarrant County outside Fort Worth city limits — including parts of Mansfield, Azle, and rural Tarrant County — have their own county-level rules. Many unincorporated Tarrant County areas are more permissive than Fort Worth city. Verify at Tarrant County Development Services (817) 884-1111.
