RV Parking Violation Response Checklist

Step 1 — Read and Document

• Read the NOV completely. Identify the specific ordinance section cited.
• Note the cure deadline. Add it to your calendar immediately.
• Photograph your current parking situation with date-stamped photos.
• Look up the cited ordinance section. Does your situation actually violate it?
• Note the officer's name and contact information for follow-up.

Step 2 — Evaluate Your Options

• Option A: Move the RV to a compliant location (off-site storage, permitted driveway, etc.).
• Option B: Add required screening to bring the current location into compliance.
• Option C: Appeal the notice if you believe it was issued in error.
• Option D: Apply for a variance if standard compliance is physically infeasible.
• For HOA violations: review CC&Rs and determine whether an exception request is viable.

Step 3 — Take Action

• Contact the code officer IN WRITING within 5 business days to acknowledge receipt and state your compliance plan.
• If more time is needed: request a written extension BEFORE the cure deadline. Explain your timeline.
• Complete your chosen compliance action (move, screen, or apply for variance).
• Photograph compliance with date-stamped photos as evidence.
• Send written confirmation of compliance to the officer, with photos attached.

Step 4 — If You Are Appealing

• Confirm the appeal deadline (typically 10–30 days from the NOV).
• Get the appeal form from the code enforcement office or city website.
• Write a clear statement explaining why the violation is incorrect, citing specific ordinance language.
• Gather supporting documentation: photos, measurements, ordinance text, prior correspondence.
• Submit the appeal before the deadline. Keep a copy with the submission date noted.
• Confirm whether compliance is required during the appeal period or whether the appeal suspends the deadline.

Step 5 — Re-Inspection and Closure

• Re-inspection scheduled. Confirm date and time with the officer.
• Property is fully compliant at re-inspection — no partial compliance.
• Case closed — compliance confirmed in writing. File the closure notice with your records.
