RV Parking Rules in Dallas, Texas — 2025 Guide
Updated 2025
Dallas Land Development Code — Strict Driveway Rules
Dallas LDC Section 51A-4.217(b)(2) prohibits recreational vehicles from being stored in required front yards or street-facing side yards unless in an enclosed structure (a garage). An open driveway — even under a carport — does not qualify as an enclosed structure. This effectively eliminates driveway storage for most large motorhomes and travel trailers.
Rear Yard Storage — The Compliant Solution
Dallas permits rear-yard RV storage when fully screened from public view by an opaque fence or wall at least 6 feet tall. Wood privacy fence, vinyl privacy fence, and CMU block walls all qualify. Chain-link with slats does not. The screening must face all adjacent public rights-of-way.
For homeowners with rear-yard access via a side gate, installing a 6-foot privacy fence across the rear property is the standard compliance path. Contact Dallas Development Services at (214) 670-5111 for specific parcel requirements.
Street Parking
Dallas enforces a 72-hour street limit. Dallas code enforcement is more active in enforcement and towing than most Texas cities for persistent violators.
